POLICY
Fundamental Principles
I will consciously attempt to include all 7 Learning Goals throughout my Internship and First Teaching Block.
During the planning of my lessons, activities, and assignments for my class I will make sure I keep a checklist of the 7 Principles and check them off each time that I include them in my work.
POLICY
Learning Skills & Work Habits
I will make sure each of my students understands and knows what the Learning Skills and Work Habits are. As well as how they are used and broken down for specific tasks.
With the students we will brainstorm and discuss what each Learning Skill and Work Habit means. Then we will create anchor charts that use student friendly language to highlight each skill and habit. These will be displayed at the front of the classroom so the students can reference them in their everyday learning.
POLICY
Performance Standards: The Achievement Chart
I will learn how to incorporate each of the 4 categories of the Achievement Chart into everyday lesson plans, assignments and tasks for my students.
I will reference the Ontario Curriculum when creating tasks and lesson plans for specific subjects in order to make sure I use each category equally under the Achievement Chart.
POLICY
Assessment FOR Learning & AS Learning
I will be able to identify the three types of Assessment: For/As/Of learning and implement them into my lessons creating different assessment opportunities for my students.
I will continue to look at the definitions I have created for my Assessment blog as well as Ontario documents and resources to deepen my understanding and knowledge of the three types.
POLICY
Evaluation
I will make sure each and every student knows what is expected of them when they are being evaluated. Once evaluated, I will provide descriptive feedback to each student as well.
I will make sure each student knows what is expected of them for every assignment by providing them with a rubric and going over said rubric. I will provide descriptive feedback to my students instead of just providing them a grade. I will sit one on one with the students to let them know: what they did well, what they need to improve upon and next steps.
POLICY
Reporting Student Achievement
I will be able to record and report as well as provide clear and reflective reports for all of my students whether it be on their progress reports or final report cards. Therefore, the parents and students can understand how their child is doing and take action to improve if needed.
I will keep individual student checklists that describe what the student has completed, is incomplete, their marks and comments. I will also keep anecdotal notes and records for when I observe the students' work in the classroom so I can keep track of students' successes, strengths and areas of improvement to accurately record student achievement.
POLICY
Students With Special Education Needs
I will make sure my classroom is a safe environment where everyone is free to learn and collaborate together. I will make sure that each student learns in a way that benefits them. Therefore, Education plans and IEP's will be developed for students' with special education needs. Students that need modifications/accommodations for assessment tasks and everyday lessons will receive them.
I will be in communication with my principal, EA's, special assistants, parents and students who are on specific IEP's. There will be routine meetings in which everyone checks in to make sure the students are on track and learning to the best of their ability. My classroom will be a respect zone in which all students, myself and visitors must abide by.
POLICY
English Language Learners
I will try my best to understand the needs and learning styles of English Language Learners and create inclusive lesson plans that benefits their learning.
I will educate myself on the latest resources and articles for how to best teach English Language Learners. I will try my best to prevent a language barrier between myself and my students. If there is one I will try to find an ELL specialized teacher or assistant that speaks the students language in order to create a channel of communication between myself, the student and the class.
POLICY
The Kindergarten Program
If placed in the kindergarten classroom, I will do my best to try and create a safe, comforting and engaging environment for my students. I will try and create a fun classroom environment that promotes student creativity and imagination.
I will do this by making the classroom bright and interactive. I will fill it with centers in which all students can learn through diverse interactions with one another, different materials and different resources. I will also try to incorporate technology into my lessons for the students.
